1. Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy applies to all GeoLayers Services, accounts, projects, APIs, public links, webhooks, automation, marketplace content and infrastructure. It forms part of the Terms of Service.
2. Lawful and authorized use
You may not use GeoLayers to violate applicable law, regulation, court order, contractual restriction or third-party right. You may process or publish data only if you have the legal authority and rights required to do so.
3. Security and platform integrity
You may not:
- gain or attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, projects, systems, databases, storage or networks;
- bypass authentication, project permissions, subscription controls, API limits, origin restrictions, rate limits or other security controls;
- probe, scan or test vulnerabilities without prior written authorization, except to the limited extent a mandatory law expressly permits;
- interfere with, overload, disable or degrade the Services or another user's use;
- introduce malware, destructive code, credential-stealing code or other harmful components;
- use automated requests at a volume that materially harms platform stability or ignores documented limits; or
- attempt to obtain service-role credentials, secrets or private data not intentionally exposed to you.
Good-faith security reports should be sent to info@geolayers.co.za before public disclosure where reasonably possible.
4. Data, privacy and confidentiality
Do not upload, scrape, infer, expose or publish personal, confidential or restricted information unless you are authorized and have a lawful basis. Public sharing and API publication features should not be used to expose private project data accidentally or to circumvent data-provider licences.
5. Intellectual property
Do not use GeoLayers to distribute content that infringes copyright, database rights, trademarks, software licences or other intellectual-property rights. Maintain required source attribution and licence notices.
6. Fraud, impersonation and deceptive activity
Do not impersonate another person or organization, misrepresent your authority, create deceptive public maps that falsely appear to be official, or use GeoLayers for fraud, phishing or credential theft.
7. Harmful or unlawful content
Do not use GeoLayers to facilitate unlawful discrimination, harassment, stalking, exploitation, threats or other unlawful harm. Do not publish precise sensitive-location data about individuals or vulnerable groups where doing so would create an unreasonable safety or privacy risk.
8. Public maps and professional representation
If you publish outputs, clearly distinguish official records from user-generated analysis. Do not imply that GeoLayers or a government body has endorsed a map, planning conclusion, prediction or dataset unless that endorsement actually exists.
9. APIs and automation
API and automation users must respect documented authentication, pagination, rate, payload and webhook limits. Do not create retry loops or automated processes that continue indefinitely after repeated errors.
Never store confidential server API keys in public repositories, browser bundles or exported workflow files. Use HTTPS endpoints for integrations involving sensitive information.
10. Marketplace and downloads
Do not redistribute, resell or republish marketplace products beyond the rights granted by the product licence. Do not remove copyright, attribution or licence notices.
11. Resource abuse
Do not use free or trial resources primarily to avoid paid limits, create excessive duplicate accounts, mine computational resources for unrelated purposes, host unrelated bulk files, or operate a service that imposes disproportionate load without an appropriate plan or written agreement.
12. Enforcement
GeoLayers may investigate suspected violations and may rate-limit, quarantine, remove public content, revoke keys, restrict features, suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect users, third parties, legal obligations or infrastructure.
Where appropriate and safe, GeoLayers will attempt to give notice and an opportunity to remedy a remediable violation. Serious security, unlawful or abusive activity may require immediate action.
13. Reporting abuse
Report suspected abuse to info@geolayers.co.za with enough information to identify the relevant account, public link, API collection or content.
