Turn a raw project layer into a readable map with a clear visual message.
1. Define the messageDecide what one question the map should answer. A map designed to show priority sites should not look the same as a reference map of all assets.
2. Prepare the layersKeep only relevant context visible, check field values and remove duplicate or misleading attributes before styling.
3. Build visual hierarchyStyle the primary layer first, then add supporting boundaries, roads or basemap context at a quieter visual level.
4. Label carefullyLabel only the features the audience needs to identify. Check collisions, readability and contrast in both light and dark contexts.
5. Prepare the outputUse Layout/Design tools for title, legend, scale and explanatory notes; then export or publish in the format the audience will actually use.
